Evident social trends, such as population ageing and the steep increase of pathologies related to sedentary behaviours, overeating, everyday stress, arise the need for new technologies to support preventive measures in the health scenario. BeWize business idea is focused on the development and commercialization of highly technological products and services that help individuals to maintain or improve their health, and in particular to prevent cardiovascular diseases, by means of individually-tailored approaches.
The basis of our solution is Wize Mirror, an interactive multisensory device looking as a normal mirror. Wize Mirror has been designed to fit in every-day life (home, gyms, pharmacies), allowing an unobtrusive operation and usage friendliness. Due to the embedded self-monitoring technology, Wize Mirror reveals risk factors and warns the users about them. In addition, a personalized coaching module suggests actions to counteract the effects of detected risks by lifestyle improvement. The whole Mirror represents a key factor in personalized medicine; on the other hand, due to the Wize Mirror capability to monitor different psycho-physical parameters, its different technological components can be implemented individually as diagnostic instruments.
Our business idea is based on the previous experience of the proponents in the EU-funded project FP7-ICT SEMEOTICONS (SEMEiotic Oriented Technology for Individual’s CardiOmetabolic risk self-assessmeNt and Self-monitoring). The project was very positively rated by the experts of the EU evaluation panel; these experts underlined that Wize Mirror showed all the potentialities to be very rapidly put in the business arena for commercial operations. During the clinical validation campaign of the three samples of the Wize Mirror prototype, both user acceptability and usability were demonstrated by the SUS (Standard System Usability Scale) scores. Volunteers showed remarkable interest and engagement, which were largely confirmed in subsequent public demonstrations of Wize Mirror (Bright, Internet Festival, FermHamente).
The current Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of the device is 6 (TRL EU scale).
