Since September 2017, Stefano Mereu has been the Chief Commercial Officer of Human Company, and subsequently also the Chief Executive Officer of Mercato Centrale.
With a degree in Economics from the La Sapienza University of Rome, Mereu started his professional career in the infrastructure sector in 1999, becoming Commercial Development Manager for Aeroporti di Roma, the company which manages the capital’s two airports, overseeing the radical overhaul of the commercial and services offer.In 2007, he became Sales Manager for Gruppo Lamaro, a developer of numerous real estate initiatives for commercial purposes, overseeing the planning of urban regeneration projects for mixed use under a concession regime, including the former Mercati Generali in Rome.
In 2008 he joined Grandi Stazioni, a PPP between the Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato, the Benetton Group, Caltagirone and Pirelli, in the role of Sales and Advertising Director, achieving the complete turnaround of the retail, catering and services offer in the context of the infrastructure upgrade programme of the 14 major Italian stations.
During this time, he oversaw the management of the company’s entire real estate portfolio and the internal advertising management concession.In 2016, as Chief Commercial Officer, he led Grandi Stazioni into the governmental privatisation programme, which saw the sale on the market of the commercial branch through an international public bidding procedure, which ended with it being awarded to leading private equity funds. In the new company, Grandi Stazioni Retail, he also sat on the board of directors.
